Valtrex.

Valtrex (valacyclovir) can be prescribed for patients with herpes infections. It's a treatment, rather than a cure, and needs to be taken regularly therefore. Taking Valtrex is not going to help you avoid passing the virus to your sex partner – you will need to use reliable methods of protection to avoid that kind of situation. Make sure you talk to your health care provider before starting the treatment and discuss all the aspects of it. It's important to mention any of the following medical conditions that are important when your dose is being determined: liver disease, problems with your immune system, kidney disease, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, or human immunodeficiency virus infection. To make sure your treatment is effective and safe you will need to take Valtrex exactly as recommended and avoid combining it with other drugs you may be using at the moment – such as lithium, IV antibiotics, cancer medicines, antiviral medicines, pain or arthritis medicines, methotrexate, medicines used to treat ulcerative colitis, drugs used to prevent organ transplant rejection, and other ones. In general, Valtrex is likely to be tolerated well by most patients, although some side effects are possible in the beginning.
